NO! Mariah Carey Christmas song banned from this bar
It tops the list of annoying Christmas songs, even beating Last Christmas by Wham! and Eenzame Kerst by André Hazes: All I want for Christmas is you by Mariah Carey. The bartenders at The Stoneleigh P Bar in Dallas have agreed on how to prevent nausea caused by a Carey overdose.
The gingerbread cookies are nowhere near gone yet, and preparations for Christmas are already beginning. The garden center has a gigantic Christmas display, and earlier this week I already heard Last Christmas blasting in the supermarket. It’s wonderfully festive if you get a small dose of Christmas now and then, and can choose to turn Sky Radio on or off, but people who work in a shop, restaurant or bar have to listen to Christmas music all day at this time of year.
Once per evening at most
The bartenders at The Stoneleigh P Bar in Dallas were really fed up with it. One more time hearing that Mariah Carey hit from the jukebox and they would have killed someone with their cocktail shaker or ice pick, seriously. The men put their heads together and decided there had to be a limit. There is now a note on the jukebox: All I want for Christmas may not be played before December 1. And after December 1: once per evening at most. That’s more than enough, according to the men.

Battlefield
What does La Carey think of it? She responded on Twitter to a photo of the jukebox with the warning: ‘Is this the war on Christmas I’ve heard about?’, accompanied by a photo of the singer in a tight Wonder Woman–style outfit on a battlefield. In an interview, she admitted that she herself only wants to hear her own Christmas hit in December, too. Otherwise, it gets stuck in her head all the time, she said.

Exceptions are possible
Other pubs are also taking measures to prevent a musical Christmas overdose. York Gin in York, England, for example, does not play any Christmas song released after 1960. So no Mariah Carey either. ‘We’re very happy with this decision, because our staff previously said they were going crazy from hearing the same Christmas songs over and over,’ says manager Emma Godivala. ‘But if Mariah visits us, we’d be happy to make an exception once.’ Once—she said it herself.
