Ottolenghi launches his own tableware
If you’re still eating off your Ikea student plates or a mismatched stack from the thrift store, it’s probably time for new tableware. And luckily, Ottolenghi always knows what you need before you do: he has designed a festive tableware collection. There are matching glasses and cutlery too. So come on, that old junk can go in the grey bin; here’s your new dinnerware set!
The man who introduced us to black garlic, sent us on an excursion to find rose harissa somewhere, and sprinkles pomegranate seeds over everything is now meddling with everything you want to put his creations on. Because those boring white plates from Blokker really won’t do anymore, and whatever you collected with loyalty points at Appie or any other supermarket isn’t worthy of the elaborate creations of the artist Ottolenghi either. No, people, that’s what you need his own plates for.
Potter
Yotam didn’t do the pottery himself; he collaborated with Italian designer Ivo Bisignano. A ‘soulmate’ according to the chef, who also worked on the cookbook’s design. ‘His works of art are honest, expressive, cheerful and colourful. And we see those qualities reflected in our food too.’
Sandwich satisfaction
The collection can be found on the website of Serax, which produces the tableware. Prices are quite reasonable: 18.50 euros for a plate, 60 euros for a serving dish and 21 euros for a bowl. If you gradually put together the twelve-piece set, you may have to eat nothing but bread with peanut butter on it for the next few months – but at least you’ll do it in style. On second thought, that Ikea tableware may still be perfectly fine, right?
