Sandwiches getting more expensive: €17.50 for a baguette schnitzel?!
Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, known in mayonnaise as Eke Bosman, tells you where to get the best snacks, from shoarma rolls to lihanboutjes. This week, he once again had a well-filled sandwich, this time with a juicy chicken schnitzel.
In Amsterdam, there are plenty of places where you can eat delicious sandwiches. Think of the fluffy stuffed brioche bun with Rib Eye from Chun Café (which received 5 stars from Snackspert) or a next-level sandwich from PAINDEMIE. They are often full-fledged lunches, but they come with a price tag…
€17.50 for a baguette schnitzel
The reactions were therefore far from mild when Snackspert shared his review of the baguette schnitzel he got at La Biss on Amsterdam’s Albert Cuyp. ‘Delicious chicken schnitzel, good raw vegetables for freshness, I think I can taste delicious onion jam, really great. However, I think the biggest downside is the price, but for €17.50 you get a baguette that you can easily share with someone else. But phew, it’s still quite pricey. Minor downside. Nevertheless, delicious sandwich, man. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️’
‘Almost 20 bucks for a sandwich?! I’m dying 😂😂😂’ says tallulahray. ‘How nice that Amsterdam does that with those prices 👏’, martijnaanstoot continues. And ruurdjee: ‘Enjoy feeling like you’ve been ripped off with every bite.’ Karmahasnodeadline73: ‘For that price, you should at least get half a metre of real imported French baguette with a good filling.’
Kosher = more expensive
Since this is a kosher sandwich, some people believe that explains the high price. Kerenhirsch says: ‘It is so expensive because it is kosher. Kosher food is unfortunately quite a bit more expensive. The supply available to the business owner for purchasing kosher products is extremely limited. That’s why the Sal Meijer sandwich is also very expensive.’
