Shoplifters Carve Balaclavas Out of Watermelons

Winkeldieven-Favorflav

Were they out of face masks? Couldn’t they find a balaclava? Did they think the classic stocking-over-the-face look was too girly? Police in Louisa, near Washington, were looking for two shoplifters who disguised themselves with a hollowed-out watermelon.

‘On May 6 at 9:35 p.m., two suspects drove to Sheetz in a raised black 2006 Toyota Tacoma, wearing hollowed-out watermelons on their heads. They robbed the store.’

Louisa police shared that message on Facebook, where it was liked and shared by thousands of people. The two shoplifters are clearly visible on the security footage: both wearing hollowed-out watermelons on their heads, with holes for their eyes, they walk through the store. In one suspect’s hand, you can see something that looks like a weapon…

The two thieves were apparently very proud of themselves, because they posed in another supermarket with those same watermelon masks. You have to give them a little credit: hollowing out a watermelon is quite a job, and it is a creative idea.

Fortunately, police were able to announce on Saturday that the two ‘melon-heads’ had been arrested.
