Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has devoured at least 1,000 burgers in his life, suspects there’s more mayonnaise than blood in his body, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav every other week.

Seriously heavenly
Fries with beef stew, Eiburgh Snacks

I dare say I get a DM every week asking whether I’ll finally go to Eiburgh Snacks. And it happened, guys, I went there. A chip shop in Zeeburg, Amsterdam, where the staff are so delightfully grumpy that you end up loving them. Or, as my esteemed colleague Jelte van der Goot puts it: ‘They practically say: what do you think you’re doing ordering fries?!?!’ Deliciously arrogant attitude, I love it. As long as the food is absolutely top-notch, you’re allowed to be arrogant. Once I ate the fries with beef stew, made entirely by the lady of the house herself, a smile appeared on my face that could be compared to being in love. One of the tastiest things I’ve ever eaten. No joke. The meat is so tender, but not so tender that it turns into pulled beef. No, thankfully the pieces of meat remain firm. The fries are nice and crispy, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with them either. No, this is a place that simply needs to hear more often that they’re one of the best in the region. What do you think you’re doing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Chickenless Chickenburger, KFC

It has become a plague. At the end of the last century, we had the plague of Furby dolls, but in 2019 we have the plague of vegetarian burgers at fast-food chains. ‘Plague’ may be a slightly negative word, because of course it’s good that the selection (for vegetarians) is constantly expanding and: the broader, the better. Unless you’re standing on the scales. Burger King is joining in (that burger could be better), McDonald’s is happily joining in too (tasty), and now KFC as well! Yes, the one with the chickens. It seems as though they’re putting something like this on the menu simply to fit in, but I have to honestly admit that this ‘Chickenless Chickenburger’ is really tasty. I’m not joking. Look, it’s not ‘burger of the year’ quality, but it is genuinely one of the better ones among all the fast-food chains offering veggie burgers. Maybe even better than the McDonald’s Veggie McChicken, and that one is already definitely good. Made with Quorn mycoprotein, an ingredient I’m not familiar with but which tastes quite a lot like chicken. That says it all, right? Fortunately, the sweet sauce isn’t excessive and works well with the really tasty burger, although I have to say that next time I’ll probably ‘just’ order a chicken burger. Because that one is crispier, and that’s immediately the biggest downside of this vegetarian burger. But this is a good start and a fantastic solution for vegetarians who still miss KFC a little. Sidenote: only available at all locations next year. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Food for the bin

Chicken BLT wrap, McDonald’s

Yes, sorry guys, this looks more like a summary of a Saturday night in a pub called Café Lachen Man where you’ve drunk far too much beer, but nothing could be further from the truth: this is McDonald’s chicken BLT wrap. I included two photos for the occasion because apparently it’s genuinely impossible to photograph this McWrap properly. It’s a bit like taking a photo of myself in the mirror: there’s no way to make it look good. And honestly, it wasn’t really that tasty either. As you can see, the wrap isn’t well filled, the bacon tasted a little too old, and the chicken was crispy but not particularly flavourful. This is simply the kind of typical McWrap you do appreciate after drinking three Jägermeisters, one belly shot and 14 beers. Handy for tonight, then. ⭐️⭐️
