So simple: make flavored vodka in the dishwasher
It takes years of training to become a liqueur maker and learn everything about spirits. And making your own liqueur? First you need to know all about percolation and distillation, and learn the difference between infusion and maceration. Or: you can simply put a bottle in the dishwasher.
Apparently, it’s a trend among young Americans to come up with new boozy inventions using candy and alcohol. Take those sour candy vodka popsicles and the famous Jell-O shots. Next level: dissolving candy in spirits, because then it gets a deliciously sweet chemical flavor and a fun color.
Bright pink vodka
Damion Styles shows on Facebook how he does it. And this clever guy came up with the idea of using his dishwasher. He takes a few sips of vodka from the bottle, then tops it up with those chemical white-and-pink candies that are apparently called ‘squashies’, screws the cap on tightly and runs the bottle through a cycle. The result: all the candies dissolve, the vodka is bright pink and now tastes exactly like those candies.
It could be better
Those white-and-pink candies aren’t exactly a party even without 40 percent alcohol, so I think Damion’s recipe could be improved. Why not put a handful of coffee beans and some brown sugar in the liquor bottle, then run it through a cycle with the plates and cutlery? I think you’d end up with something like Tia Maria. Trekdrop—would that dissolve? And what would happen with orange peels, a piece of ginger and sugar? This calls for thorough follow-up research.
