Tested: Jamin’s newest (and weirdest) Easter egg flavors

Paaseitjes Jamin

We’ve barely recovered from the (not very successful) taste test of the Venco licorice cookies, and another trial is already waiting for us. This time: Jamin’s newest Easter egg flavors. Either we’ll be running around the office hyper from the sugar rush , or we’ll be running to the bathroom. With a bit of luck, we’ll run back to Jamin for another batch of Easter eggs.

One thing is certain: we’re very curious about these flavors. We scooped the weirdest new flavors right out of the bins. Pear popsicle, pudding bun, passion fruit Bubble Tea, Piña Colada, Mimosa, apple turnover, candy banana, Hot Honey, ginger beer, cotton candy, iced coffee and Bossche Bol—they’re all in there.

Pizza egg, back for another round

And honestly, these are all flavors that could still surprise us. We’re skeptical about one flavor: pizza. A few years ago, we also tasted Jamin’s pizza Easter egg, and that wasn’t exactly a success… We hope the recipe has been adjusted.

Pear popsicle–white chocolate: 6

Festini pear popsicles disappear by the bulk around here in summer. So how does it taste as an Easter egg? Hmm, it’s a little disappointing. The white chocolate dominates enormously. Somewhere far in the background, we taste something resembling pear, but we really have to try very hard to bring it out. It’s certainly not disgusting, but we know more exciting eggs than this one.

Pudding bun–milk chocolate: 7

Now, this one is already a little more exciting than its predecessor. There’s something liquid inside the egg, which is probably meant to represent the cream in a pudding bun. This is getting closer. The liquid cream is sweet and slightly bitter; we think it turned out pretty well.

Passion fruit Bubble Tea–milk chocolate: 8.5

YES! This is amazing! We don’t really pick out the Bubble Tea, but we do taste the passion fruit. And that’s really delicious combined with the chocolate. A little sweet, a little tangy. We’re also genuine passion fruit fans in the editorial office, so perhaps we’re a little biased. But this gets a big thumbs-up from us.

Piña Colada–white chocolate: 4

No. Oh no. This isn’t it. Much, much too bitter. Ugh. Yes, we taste a little pineapple and perhaps some kind of rum flavor too, but wow. We need to recover from this one. And we still have 10 eggs to go…

Mimosa–white chocolate: 8

We’re so nauseated by the Piña Colada egg that we have to deploy a new strategy. We’re only eating half an egg now. One bite, basically. The Mimosa egg makes up for a lot. Nicely done, Jamin: this really tastes like Mimosa. We taste the orange extremely well and hey, even a little prosecco? Delicious!

Apple turnover–milk chocolate: 6.5

Hey, an apple turnover in an egg. We think this one turned out well too. We taste quite a strong cinnamon flavor, with something resembling raisin in the background. The flavor does disappear fairly quickly, leaving behind a simple, boring milk chocolate flavor. That’s a bit of a shame.

Candy banana–milk chocolate: 5.5

Something tells us we’ll need a break after this egg. If you’re already feeling nauseous, eating candy bananas—or something resembling them—is the dumbest idea at that moment. But we push on; we’re tough as k-EI-nails—and if this is lame humor, it’s Jamin’s fault. Incidentally, the candy banana is absolutely nowhere to be found in the Easter egg. What a letdown. Though somewhere, it’s also a relief. A small passing grade because it isn’t disgusting.

Hot Honey–milk chocolate: 7

Hot Honey, then. And are we burning up? No. But we do taste the honey very strongly. So isn’t it just an egg with a honey flavor? No, we also taste something very faintly “hot” on our tongues. Hats off, Jamin.

Ginger beer–milk chocolate: 6.5

Ginger beer—can you capture that in an egg? Yes, you can. Jamin proves it. The flavor isn’t super strong, but we can taste the delicious summer drink in the background. A light ginger flavor. We do find it sits rather heavily. It has a fairly firm texture. This is an egg you eat once, but not one you keep reaching for.

Cotton candy–white chocolate: 5

So, Jamin, are you going to pay our dental bills later?! What an insanely, insanely sweet egg. Your enamel literally blasts off your teeth. We taste something that isn’t white chocolate, but if we didn’t know it was supposed to be cotton candy, we never would have guessed. Ugh.

Iced coffee–milk chocolate: 7.5

What an ordeal this is. We’re still recovering from that disgusting cotton candy egg. Will the iced coffee make things better? Yes, a little. It has a nice coffee flavor. We do wonder what the difference is between iced coffee and regular hot coffee, but oh well. It’s a tasty egg.

Bossche Bol–dark chocolate: 9

Jumbo also came out with Bossche Bol eggs: what do we think of Jamin’s creation? The answer: DELICIOUS! The egg is filled with soft whipped cream. At least, it probably isn’t real whipped cream, but it’s a good imitation. Combined with the dark chocolate, it really is like a mini Bossche Bol. We have a winner, we think!

Pizza–milk chocolate: 0

The moment of truth has arrived. Is this the final nail in the coffin or the surprise of the year? Let’s get straight to the point: this is awful. It’s really, REALLY disgusting. You literally taste salami and cheese wrapped in chocolate. Yes, that is pizza, so yes: they’ve recreated it well. But this is unbelievably revolting.

What did we learn from this taste test? Not every crossover works in Easter eggs. And never, ever schedule a taste test if you’re heading into town for Carnival an hour later. You’re already down 1–0 before you’ve even put on your Carnival costume.
