The 5 Most Popular Sandwiches in Amsterdam in 2023

Not everyone was happy about it, but thanks to social media, quite a few places — and in this case: sandwiches — went viral. With long TikTok queues as a result, which the residents, in turn, weren’t too happy about. Understandably so, but it has to be said: the fact that those queues are still there perhaps means that these sandwiches from Amsterdam are more than worth the hype.

So if you haven’t tried these popular sandwiches yet, go for it, but make sure you set aside enough time. A two-hour queue at Chun Café is nothing new by now…
The 5 Most Popular Sandwiches in Amsterdam in 2023
1. The Rib Eye Bulgogi from Chun Café
What an incredible year Chun Café has had. In 2022, they went viral with their sandwiches for the first time, and that hype is far from over. Every day, there are long queues outside. Most people come for the Rib Eye Bulgogi, but honestly: you can’t go wrong at Chun, because everything is incredibly delicious. So I was surprised that there isn’t a second location yet. But good news… In spring 2024, there finally will be one.
2. All the sandwiches at Zero Zero
They’re called schiacciata: the thin, focaccia-like sourdough sandwiches on the menu here. Zero Zero now has two locations (in the city centre and one in De Pijp), and at both, don’t be surprised if there’s a queue. What I personally like about Zero Zero is that you really get your money’s worth; it isn’t cheap, but the sandwiches are so enormous that you can easily share one with someone and still feel full.
3. Chook Norris from Dignita
This sandwich is truly divine, which is why I’m also a little disappointed: at Dignita, they haven’t quite understood the whole ‘never change a winning team‘ idea. At the time of writing, for example, they have the ‘Ay-am Chook Norris’, which is ‘the classic in an Indonesian guise’. Before that, they also had a different version instead of their classic. And while I’m perfectly happy with those changes — please keep the original on the menu as well. Because we miss it now!
4. The croissants from Fort Negen
Okay, it isn’t a sandwich, but we’re including it in this list anyway. Because Fort Negen single-handedly changed the entire croissant scene , and with great success. Not only are the croissants incredibly delicious, they also come up with a new filled creation every week. Such as a version with goat’s cheese, lemon zest, garlic and parsley, or a cheese croissant with celeriac. Trust me: whatever their croissant of the week is, you’ll want to try it. And – for that, you’ll often have to queue as well…
5. The bagels from Flo’s Appetizing
A little piece of New York in Amsterdam, because Flo’s bagels really are every bit as good as those in the Big Apple. They’re homemade and generously topped with salmon, pastrami or, for example, egg. There are now three locations in Amsterdam, and they also have a special takeaway menu: you can buy individual bagels and separate ingredients, so you can put together a proper bagel brunch or lunch at home. Fun!
