The best Asian food chains from America that we want in the Netherlands ASAP
I recently wrote about the fast-food chains from America that we want in the Netherlands as soon as possible, and it turned out to work perfectly as manifestation: it seems that Wingstop, a chain that was on that list, is actually coming to the Netherlands. I’m incredibly happy about that, because those chicken wings, ranch and lemon pepper fries are so delicious.
So I thought: let’s see if this trick works one more time, but this time with the Asian chains they have over there. I put my ultimate favorite at number one, because I’ve been dreaming for years that it would finally come to the Netherlands.
The best Asian food chains from America
1. Din Tai Fung
Okay, this may be cheating a little — because Din Tai Fung doesn’t come from the United States at all. The first location opened in Taipei, Taiwan, and by now they have many locations across Asia as well. Worldwide, they now have more than 170 locations, a large number of which are in America. For now, they largely skip Europe; there are only two locations in London. But if you get the chance, go and eat here without a doubt and order the famous Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings), along with their dressing recipe, cucumber salad and spicy house noodles. So, so, so delicious.
2. Lao Sze Chuan
Unlike the chain above, this one really does come from America, namely Chicago, Illinois. That’s where the very first location opened in Chinatown, and by now they have fifteen locations across the country. So the chances of it coming to Europe aren’t very high yet, but we can hope; the Szechuan dishes they serve are praised worldwide. From spicy beef recipes to frog legs; there’s something for everyone.
3. Nobu
If Din Tai Fung doesn’t work out, I’d really love to see a Nobu open in the Netherlands soon. And honestly, I don’t quite understand why it hasn’t happened yet; this sushi restaurant would probably be hugely popular in Amsterdam. And expensive, because it is everywhere in the world; especially in cities known for not being cheap, you’ll find a Nobu. Like Dubai, Monaco, Ibiza Town, Miami, Las Vegas… I’ve been to two locations myself and truly think the hype is worth it; the sushi here is seriously divine, but the teppanyaki is also incredible.
3. Honey Pig Korean BBQ
This chain is known for its Korean BBQ being just as authentic as in Korea itself. You’re increasingly seeing those restaurants appear in the Netherlands too (check out the best Korean BBQ here), but how great would it be if we got a chain in the Netherlands that you know is guaranteed to be good? The first location opened in 2007 in Baltimore, Maryland, by Korean immigrant Mickey Kim. The fun thing about Honey Pig Korean BBQ is that they have the usual suspects such as bulgogi on the menu, but also dishes for adventurous diners, such as offal and tripe — just as is the case in Korea.
