The national spiced cookie referendum begins: voting opens today

Kruidnoot-Favorflav

Every year, the debate flares up again. Should spiced cookies really be on the shelves already in summer? One thing is certain: we never stop talking about it. When should spiced cookies appear on the shelves? Do you think it’s far too early, or are you happy about it and not one to complain? To give everyone a voice, Bolletje is organizing the very first national Spiced Cookie Referendum.

Some people want to enjoy spiced cookies all year round, but fans of autumn and winter traditions still think it’s far too early. Last year—on a hot summer day in August—I also wondered whether it was perhaps a little too early for Sinterklaas sweets.

Cast your vote

Too early or perfectly fine; the national Spiced Cookie Referendum is the perfect opportunity for the Netherlands to put an end to this endless debate. From today, you can vote online at kruidnootreferendum.nl. Anyone who prefers to vote in person can do so on Tuesday, August 13, at Vredenburgplein in Utrecht, and on Wednesday, August 14, at Binnenwegplein in Rotterdam.

Spread it on

Can’t get enough of it and are you crazy about that distinctive spiced-cookie flavor? Completely understandable, because this is why those things are so addictive.  That’s why we have a few more smashing tips for you. How about spiced-cookie spread on bread? Or even better: mini chocolate spiced cookies for on bread.
