There’s a gigantic TikTok controversy going on over this ‘pink sauce’
TikTok can be such a wonderful app. I’ve already picked up quite a few recipes from it, from the burger wrap to the well-known pasta with feta. But things do sometimes go wrong too, as became clear over the past week. Have you heard of Pink Sauce? No? Keep it that way.
Pink Sauce is a sauce invented by ‘chef’ Carly Pii. I’m putting that in quotation marks, because personally, I wouldn’t really call this woman a chef. She came up with this pink sauce (quite the surprising name for the product too) and is currently selling it via this site. Just $20 per bottle. A bargain.
Loads of criticism
But despite the sauce selling surprisingly well, Carly Pii is mainly facing criticism. Why? She forgot to have the sauce properly approved by the FDA, the American Food and Drugs Association. Her explanation was that it wasn’t necessary—apparently, she even briefly forgot what the ‘F’ in the abbreviation stands for.
Can a pink sauce like that really do much harm? Quite a lot. Carly Pii also forgot to clearly list the ingredients on the packaging, meaning many people only found out later that it also contains dairy. As you may know, dairy needs to be kept refrigerated, and the sauce was transported anything but refrigerated. More accurately: huge quantities of this strange sauce were transported in scorching-hot trucks, meaning they had essentially already gone bad by the time they arrived with consumers.
First hospital cases already reported
Pink Sauce is a craze, and naturally, plenty of kids want to join in. Kids who, unfortunately, don’t always think through the consequences for their health, as became clear on Reddit. One mother shared her story while waiting in the hospital. Without her knowing, her daughter had bought Pink Sauce with her credit card and had to be rushed to the hospital.
Isn’t this really a lawsuit waiting to happen? Yep, that’s certainly what it looks like—even though Carly Pii doesn’t seem worried for now. She’s probably laughing all the way to the bank, because even more bottles are now being bought following all this criticism. People want to have one at home, in case that lawsuit eventually happens and all users can file a claim. Only in America…
