These are the 10 best snacks of 2023 that you’ll want to try

Snackfluencer @snackspert is our guide to the best cheese soufflé and biggest frikandel, from the far north to the deep south. So when he lists his favorite snacks of 2023, we immediately check which ones we haven’t tried yet. Because, as Snackspert himself says: ‘you absolutely have to have eaten this by the end of next year if you want to be happy in culinary terms.’ Who are we to contradict him?

Snackspert has been reviewing snacks on Instagram since 2014 under the motto ‘No snack is too crazy for me’. And people devour it; 113,000 followers on the gram, biweekly contributions to FavorFlav and a weekly column in Het Parool. He compiled his best and most entertaining reviews, supplemented with city walks and snippets of snack history, in De Ultieme Snackgids. In short, he’s the person who knows where to go for the tastiest snacks.
The 10 best snacks of 2023
Snackspert: ‘you absolutely have to have eaten this by the end of next year if you want to be happy in culinary terms. At least, that’s what I say. But it’s not an obligation, more of a recommendation. Or something. Anyway! Here they are. In no particular order’:
📍 KID Amsterdam – best fried chicken sandwich at the moment
📍 Cafetaria de Toren in Breda – incredible fries
📍 Le Smash in Amsterdam – perhaps the best smashburger in Europe
📍 Puffed cheddar from Cheese Pop – yes, sorry, I’m simply addicted
📍 Friethuys M E T in Almere – the most fun and original snack bar of the year
📍 Madre in Amsterdam – in my opinion, the best vegan (snack) restaurant at the moment
📍 Bollino’s in Apeldoorn – incredible sandwiches, deservedly in the top 10
📍Jalapeño-cheddar sausage from Brandt & Levie – the tastiest sausage you can buy at the supermarket
📍 Davie’s in Amsterdam – it doesn’t matter what you order there, every sandwich is worth 5 stars
📍 Karel’s Bio Friet in Leiden – artisanal snacks of an exceptionally high standard
