These are the tastiest beef croquettes you can buy at the supermarket
Fresh off the press: FEBO is launching a protein croquette specially for athletes. All well and good, of course, but what’s wrong with a good old-fashioned beef croquette? The mother of all croquettes, which, as far as we’re concerned, is still the rocket of the snack world? That’s why we’d like to find out which supermarket beef croquette is the very best.
And who better to tell us than Snackspert? After all, thanks to him we also know which fish fingers, ridged paprika crisps and bapao buns we should pick up at the supermarket. Thanks to Snackspert, we also know about the existence of the best supermarket frozen pizza in the world. We are grateful to him for that every day.
These are the best (and worst) supermarket beef croquettes
Snackspert had quite a task ahead of him: no fewer than 10 different types of oven/Airfryer croquettes were tested. From own-label products to well-known national brands, everything was included. Snackspert’s oven (or Airfryer) has certainly been working overtime. We’re counting down from 10 to 1. With commentary from the snackmaster himself:
10. Mora: ‘Not seasoned well. It really doesn’t have much flavor.’
9. Jumbo: ‘Not great either. I find it quite bitter.’
8. Aldi: ‘It just tastes bland, stale.’
7. Dirk: ‘Really much too salty.’
6. Van Dobben: ‘I love Van Dobben, but the supermarket version doesn’t contain enough meat.’
5. Lidl: ‘Just okay flavor-wise, but I do find the texture a little too mushy.’
4. G’woon: ‘Just fine.’
3. Beckers: ‘Of all the Airfryer croquettes so far, this one has the most deep-fried flavor. But this one also contains quite little meat. Otherwise, okay flavor-wise.’
2. Albert Heijn: ‘The Albert Heijn one is actually pretty good. It contains lots of meat. The shredded beef is also very tasty. Nice and crispy. This one is really very, very good.’
1. Kwekkeboom: ‘I think Kwekkeboom has the best flavor. Deliciously brothy, good meat, nice and crispy. No, this one is really very good.’
A national brand in first place, and not just any brand: Kwekkeboom is simply an excellent croquette brand. We find tenth place more surprising. Another national brand is there, namely Mora. Mora, what’s going on? Your rendang bitterballen received a pretty tasty score of 4 stars recently, but this isn’t such a great result. So no Mmmm, but Hmmm from Mora.
Mora croquette: tastes differ
Incidentally, not everyone agrees with Snackspert’s verdict. There are actually quite a few Mora fans responding to the review: ”Strange! We think Mora is the tastiest 🤔”, ”Mora is the tastiest here too!” and ”So do I, it often has the most flavor”, people write about the Mora croquette. ”Tastes differ,” Snackspert rightly pointed out to his followers. We agree, although we’re now running to the store for a pack of Kwekkeboom croquettes anyway. If we are to believe Snackspert (and his followers!), Kwekkeboom’s Black Angus croquettes are so good they’re impossible to beat. Just like Kwekkeboom’s stewed-beef croquettes, another huge hit.
