In 1997, ice cream makers Ben & Jerry’s started their flavor cemetery, the Graveyard of Discontinued Flavors. Initially, it was an online memorial, but after a few years they also placed some tombstones on a hill behind the factory. Ice cream lovers can go there to commemorate their beloved ice cream flavors that are sadly no longer with us. By now, 35 flavors have been laid to rest.

Should you mourn every ice cream flavor? Not really, if we look at the names. Wavy Gravy—that doesn’t sound particularly tasty. And Turtle Soup—had you already missed that one? The ice cream flavors certainly have unusual names, as is also clear from the tombstones. The reasons why the ice creams are no longer in the range are also made clear on the tombstones. Disappointing sales figures can be one reason, but White Russian, for example, could no longer be made because the price of Kahlua, one of the ingredients, shot up like a comet.
