These cheap foods people would keep eating, even if they had all the money in the world

Fun question for the next party: imagine you’re filthy rich and can buy absolutely anything you want, including the most expensive and luxurious products. Which cheap foods would you still keep eating? People on Reddit are going wild over this question. Because it turns out everyone has at least one (or a shitload of) cheap guilty pleasures after all.

Whether filthy rich or not, deep down we’re all (almost) gas-station sandwich lovers, frozen pizza fans and devotees of canned soup with a bapao bun.
Fast food packed with E-numbers
When I ask my boyfriend, he enthusiastically shouts ‘frikandellen’. Yes, that’s such an insanely delicious cheap snack that you simply wouldn’t buy it at that sustainable, expensive organic/eco shop. You get them in a giant pack from the freezer section of the supermarket. Fast food is also mentioned frequently in the Reddit replies. One person says fast-food burgers are simply different from burgers from the butcher. ”Both are delicious, but you’re just not always in the mood for butcher’s burgers.” I can relate. You may be able to afford that expensive meat from the fancy butcher, but sometimes you just want burgers that have been processed to death with E-numbers. Simply because they taste good.
Someone else takes it one step further in the comments when it comes to fast food. ”Pizza. You’ll have to pry it from my cold, dead hands.” Period.
Cheap becomes fancy
Others would still turn their favorite cheap snack into a fancy meal. One person says they would 100% keep buying breakfast cereal, ”but then I’d buy 20 different kinds and mix them all together into an incredible breakfast cereal salad”. Now that’s a smart way to handle your wealth. Buy super-cheap food in bulk and then keep snacking non-stop.
Soup in a bag: heaven
When I read this comment, I almost wanted to give a high five through my screen: ”Grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup”. I’ll be honest: I prefer making my grilled cheese sandwiches myself, but tomato soup in a bag… There’s just something about it. It’s deliciously sweet, a little greasy: exactly what’s bad for you and, at the same time, so good. Luckily, the best tomato soup already comes from the supermarket anyway! I wouldn’t buy ready-made grilled cheese sandwiches to go with it (okay, I’ll make an exception for these best grilled cheese sandwiches in the world), but garlic baguette. You know the one: that far-too-salty white baguette you finish baking in the oven and pull apart piece by piece. Love it.
McDonald’s & Taco Bell: eternal guilty pleasures
Fast-food restaurants are also frequently mentioned in the replies. McDonald’s comes up a lot, but Taco Bell definitely does too—and perhaps even more often. About the latter, someone says: “Taco Bell is the only place where you pull up to the drive-thru and see a $70,000 Mercedes, followed by a ’94 Chevy Cavalier with 300,000 kilometers on the odometer, and behind it three guys on a moped. It’s the great equalizer; we all want the same thing, namely more life”. And they’ve hit the nail right on the head.
I’m already one walking guilty pleasure by nature, so I’d always keep buying my favorite cheap food too. Soup in a bag with a bake-at-home baguette and herb butter, for starters, but also Katja yogurt gums, white chocolate chip cookies, Lay’s Sensation’s Thai Sweet Chili, Mars ice creams, dry Melba toast, brown M&M’s…
