This is bound to be a hit: frikandel on a stick

frikandel

They can really let loose in Volendam—or in this case, poke away. Snack bar owner Peter came up with the frikandel on a stick. Easy to eat, and less waste from plastic containers and forks. A bit tricky with the sauce, he admits, but most customers really don’t mind. Just watch: this is going to be a hit!

Is it an April Fool’s joke or is it deadly serious? We haven’t quite decided in the newsroom yet, but seriously now: food on a stick isn’t that crazy. In America, they’re completely crazy about corndogs, a deep-fried sausage on a stick. You can just bite it off—handy! More stick-based silliness: cotton candy (love), satay—and let’s not forget the lihan-boutje. We’re kicking ourselves for not coming up with this brilliant idea, Peter’s frikanstiks.

Double dippers

Dip into that sauce and take a bite. Perfect! And the fact that those sticks are considerably cheaper than the plastic containers Peter normally sells the frikandel in is an added bonus. Only: what are we going to do about double dippers, people who swish their half-eaten frikandel through the sauce again? Not exactly hygienic.

People are also worried about the special frikandel: ‘frikandel on a stick, they’re no good. How is my sauce supposed to stay on, and the onions?’, concerned Michel wrote on Facebook. Arjan doesn’t have much faith in the whole stick-and-sauce situation either, especially—not again—with the special frikandel. But Peter will surely come up with a solution for that too.
