This supermarket has the largest range of organic products

Last year, supermarket Plus decided that it would only sell organic dairy products from then on. And Lidl was the first major retailer to have all its stores organically certified (since 2021, outlets selling unpackaged organic products have been required to obtain certification from Skal; an independent organisation that monitors the entire organic chain in the Netherlands). Vomar and Albert Heijn also received such certification at the end of last year. And that latter supermarket even has the largest range of organic products.

In 1998, Albert Heijn was the first supermarket in the Netherlands to introduce organic own-brand products, in order to introduce more customers to organic food.

Sixteen organic varieties of breakfast cereal

From bananas to natural vinegar and from ice cream to baby food; with more than 1,850 products, Albert Heijn offers customers the largest organic range in the Netherlands. For some products, organic has now become the standard, such as pumpkin, ginger, red and white cabbage, beetroot, parsnip and (baby) romaine lettuce. For other products, the organic choice has grown considerably in recent years. For example, there are sixteen organic varieties of breakfast cereal on the shelves.

Winning awards

A number of organic products, including AH Wholegrain organic penne and AH Organic 100% apple-mango juice, recently won awards in the election for Product of the Year. More recently, Perla Organic, Albert Heijn’s in-house-brewed coffee, was named the best-tasting sustainable aroma/red filter coffee in a test by Consumentengids.
