Tip: the Low Food Festival is coming up again

From September 6 to 8, Low Food and Move Amsterdam, in collaboration with ATAG, are organizing the second edition of the Low Food Festival. And that means three days of enjoyment for everyone who loves good, delicious and honest food. During the Low Food Festival, there is not only plenty to taste, but you can also learn all about flavors, cooking and ingredients.

With live shows, workshops, a food market, guest-chef dinners and food tours, there is something for all ages. Chefs and experts from the Netherlands and abroad teach visitors the finer points of their trade, from Freddy Tratlehner and Joris Bijdendijk to Max La Manna, Asma Khan, Yvette van Boven and journalist Teun van de Keuken.
Live shows and guest-chef dinners
In the cooking theater, the pop stars of the culinary world take the stage. There are live shows by, among others, low waste chef Max La Manna, ‘King of Pie’ Calum Franklin and Asma Khan (known from Chef’s Table). Yvette van Boven and Teun van de Keuken record a live podcast episode of ‘Etenstijd’, while chef Giel Kaagman prepares a daring local surf & turf. Freddy Tratlehner and Joris Bijdendijk cook together from a mystery box. Emma de Thouars gives a masterclass in solo cooking, a first because her book of the same name, solo koken, is being published that same week. The kitchens of WILS* Restaurant and WILS Bakery Café will be open during the festival with special festival menus and guest-chef dinners. Reservations are recommended for these specials as well as for the other program components.
Inspiring workshops
During various inspiring workshops in collaboration with delicious.academy, you can upgrade your cooking skills. Chefs Donovan Kraag, Paulami Joshi, Vanja van der Leeden, and pastry chefs Lotte van Gorp and Laura Vervoort reveal the secrets behind their signature dishes. There are also hands-on atelier workshops that go just beyond cooking itself: Oof Verschuren teaches visitors all about food photography, salad queen Ajda Mehmet shares the ins and outs of food styling, and Marlies Bax gives a culinary storytelling workshop on writing the best food stories.
Browse the food market and go on a tour
Chef-worthy products can be found at the extensive Food Market, which is free to visit. Tortilleria Taiyari shares Mexican tips & tricks, Dutch Wasabi brings a piece of Japan to the Netherlands, and Milou Broersen presents her sustainable tableware. You can also set out on your own: with a food tour, you can take an Urban Arrow cargo bike from the festival and get behind-the-scenes access to culinary locations nearby. The food tour is suitable for children, and there is a children’s program at the festival for children aged 6 and up.
