This tip is also doable if you’re not quite as much of a cleaning enthusiast as Carolina: put a ball of aluminum foil in your dishwasher. What? Yes, she says it helps make cutlery that comes out of the dishwasher a little dull extra clean. So does your cutlery look a little worse for wear when you take it out of the dishwasher? You don’t have to immediately buy new forks and knives (or a new dishwasher); try this first.
In the rack
Make a loose ball out of aluminum foil and place it in the cutlery rack. The aluminum foil ball stays neatly in the rack; it’s not as if it (just like a tennis ball in the dryer with your pillow, another such hack) actually polishes everything extra clean or anything. No, the aluminum in the foil reacts with the dishwasher tablet, and that results in shiny cutlery. We’ll leave the exact chemistry to the experts, but shiny forks and knives are very nice indeed, so just give it a try.
