Why People Are Putting Peanuts in Their Cola (and Why You’ll Want to Do It Too)

Pepsi pinda's

We all know the trick of putting Mentos in cola. Oh, how much fun we used to have when the cola fizzed massively and we ended up completely covered in the sweet stuff. Now a new trend has blown over from America: salted peanuts in cola.

And apparently, it’s really, really delicious.

How the hack came about

Genius ideas often begin with a problem. We’ve seen that so many times with food hacks. There’s a parchment paper hack because someone could never get their parchment paper properly into the baking tin. And there’s also a (pretty brilliant) hack for removing those nasty white strings from your chicken breast. Hacks like these solve problems—even if they may not be life-threatening problems that make our daily lives miserable.

The peanuts-in-cola hack also came with a problem. Years ago (yes, this hack is that old!), workers took peanuts with them to their workplace. They didn’t have any water nearby to wash their hands, so they could eat the peanuts. Because eating peanuts with dirty hands = gross. So what did they do? They put the peanuts into their full bottles of cola. And it turned out to be bizarrely delicious.

The simplest hack ever

How you do it is so simple that there’s no need for a how-to list. Just unscrew the cap of your cola bottle and put salted peanuts in it. Even a child could do it. Oh, just make sure you don’t use Coke Zero or Diet Coke. They contain alternative sweeteners, and when you combine those with the salty peanut flavor, it tastes incredibly awful. Very bitter. You can also make your own cola, by the way. That makes the hack a little more exciting than simply twisting the cap off the bottle and putting peanuts in the cola.
