Wine with cannabis: this Frenchman reinvented the centuries-old wine
Not high, just relaxed. Finding your inner peace with cannabis beer, CBD sriracha or a weed burger is possible, you know. In addition to these cannabis-infused products, the cannabis wine made by French cannabis grower Raphael De Pablo is now also a huge hit.
The history of cannabis wine
Cannabis wine is thousands of years old. In 2015, French archaeologists discovered the grave of a Gaul who had been buried a few hundred years before Christ, with quite a few wine barrels in his grave. After an investigation three years ago, they discovered that the barrels had not contained ordinary French wine, but wine that also contained cannabis.
At the time, adding cannabis was mainly intended to improve the flavour, as after a while the wine often had more of a sour vinegar taste than the alluring taste of red fruit, French professor Matthieu Poux explained in an interview at the time. Cannabis grower Raphael De Pablo came across the interview and became so curious about the CBD wine that he decided to try making it himself. And so cannabis wine was born again.
Burdi W.
And this newcomer turned out rather well. The first bottle of ‘Burdi W.’ was filled at the beginning of this year. Burdi W. is a traditional Bordeaux wine with CBD from Raphael’s own organic cannabis farm. The wine will not get you absolutely stoned, by the way. The wine contains only a minimal amount of THC, since higher percentages are prohibited in France, as well as in the Netherlands.
Cannawine
Unfortunately, getting hold of a bottle of the cannabis wine is not an option for us. Outside France, the bottles are delivered only to Luxembourg and Belgium. You can still opt for a bottle of Spanish Cannawine with hemp extract, though. Or travel to our neighbouring countries this summer.
