You can now buy gyros and tzatziki chips at Lidl, and this is what we think of them

Plain or paprika may be the most obvious chips you can pick from the shelf, but that certainly doesn’t make them any less delicious. In fact, I prefer to eat only plain chips, preferably the ridged kind. But every now and then another bag makes its way into the house. This time, it’s the tzatziki and gyros chips from supermarket Lidl.

It’s Greek Week at Lidl again, and of course the cheerful duo tzatziki and gyros couldn’t be missing. That’s why these ‘Greek chips’ are available in stores for one week only – and for just 1.59 per bag. Should you grab them?
Tzatziki chips
While Lay’s fast-food chain flavours left us somewhat disappointed, these are two flavours guaranteed to have you eating entire bags. Because: tzatziki! We can’t get enough of it when we’re on holiday in Greece or Cyprus. With a piece of warm, crispy pita bread, we quickly scoop every bowl we come across completely empty.
Tzatziki in chip form, then. Is it delicious? Is it disgusting? A bit of both. It tastes like a mix of chives and sour cream onion – and there’s nothing wrong with that. They’re wonderfully moreish, but we’re still not sure whether they really taste like tzatziki. Nevertheless, a perfectly good guiltily delicious snack to enjoy with drinks.
Chips with gyros flavour
And then there’s the gyros version. Delicious? Yes, but here too you don’t immediately taste the grilled meat on a skewer; it’s mainly the herbs that remind us of a generously filled pita with gyros. It’s a real party crasher for fans of BBQ chip flavours – especially with a cold glass of Greek beer alongside it.
Greek-style
In short: definitely bring both bags home. And do you know what else is really delicious if you want to do it Greek-style? Make an ouzo-tzatziki dip for your hamburger!
