4 places to eat in Breda

Whether you’re looking for a lovely place to have lunch or eagerly anticipating a chic multi-course dinner, this Burgundian city has it all—and then some! These are our favorite spots.

Wine pairing
If you love wine and enjoy eating something that’s perfectly matched to what you’re drinking, Wijnbar Pinot is the perfect place in Breda. Every two months, there’s a new menu with three starters, main courses and desserts. Think scallop with cauliflower or brill with celeriac and Brussels sprout. And, of course, the sommeliers have selected three matching wines for each dish. From a Riesling from our own country (!) to an Italian Amarone: the wine cellar beneath the restaurant is packed with top wines from all over the world.
Lunch special
No fuss, just a good ham-and-cheese omelet or a lunch special at Charelli. And that lunch special is perfect if you can’t choose. This classic lunch café dish consists of soup, a croquette and bread with salads, plus a choice of meat, fish or vegetarian. Later in the day, you can enjoy delicious veal ribeye with béarnaise sauce here, or go for the gratinated oysters.
French classics
A French restaurant naturally can’t be missing from the list, because Breda is and always will be a Burgundian city. Brasserie Bardot is a lovely informal spot, and the menu is full of delicious classics. In the morning, you can come here for a cup of coffee and a croissant; in the afternoon, for croque madames or (recommended!) shrimp croquettes. For dinner, choose poussin, bouillabaisse or North Sea sole à la meunière. Finished eating? Next to the brasserie is the charming Petit Bardot, a French wine bar with lots of wines by the glass.
Pure Italian
A few doors down from Brasserie Bardot is Barlucca. If Italian is your favorite cuisine, this is your go-to. From pappardelle with hare stew to red wine risotto, from crispy cannoli with white chocolate to affogato. Have the house aperitivo: the drink made with limoncello, prosecco, mint and lemon is an excellent end to dinner and start to the rest of the evening.
