Bizarre product from Albert Heijn: chocolate egg in a real eggshell (why?!)
Does Albert Heijn not know what else to come up with anymore?! That’s what I wonder when I see this bizarre invention: a hazelnut praline egg in a real eggshell. I tested it, because I simply can’t believe this can be a success.
I’ll admit straight away that I didn’t go into this test with a very open, neutral attitude. But afterwards, it turned out that was completely justified. This really gives you an error, I’ll give that away already. An error egg, then.
Taking the egg—er, mickey
There really is literally an eggshell around this chocolate egg. Not made of chocolate, marzipan or icing, but a REAL eggshell. So I immediately wonder: why?! What is that eggshell doing there? Is it meant to help you have a laugh at your crazy uncle during Easter breakfast? To make it just that little bit more difficult for yourself to eat something as simple as a solid chocolate Easter egg? I have no idea. The egg is a product from Albert Heijn’s Excellent brand—the luxury department, let’s say—and I don’t think that really fits with pranks.
Another question that fascinates me: how did this chocolate egg end up inside that eggshell? There’s a small opening at the bottom, so perhaps they poured the chocolate in that way and let it harden. Or did they somehow magically manage to build an entire eggshell around the Easter egg? If you work in Albert Heijn’s production department: tell me.
Chocolate egg in a real eggshell: stupid
After I’ve peeled the egg, a solid, heavy piece of chocolate remains. The packaging says it contains a hazelnut praline filling. Then I expect some kind of cream in the middle of the egg. Or a large hazelnut. Nowhere to be found. It really is one solid block of chocolate. And that makes me feel bloated and nauseous in no time. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad. It’s simply too much.
The eggshell, the thick lump of chocolate, the combination… I need time to recover from it. All in all, we think it’s a stupid product. It can definitely go on the list of the strangest products from Albert Heijn. Sometimes “just act normal, that’s crazy enough” is a very fitting saying. Even though it’s almost April 1.
