Brabant butcher sells frikandel salad: let carnival come
Frikandel salad. It sounds a little like trying to put the devil in a beautiful dress. Something ‘bad’ that nevertheless sounds good. Can you picture it? In Goirle, Brabant, they can, because at the village butcher’s you can actually buy a tub of frikandel salad. And it’s flying off the counter like hot (frikandel) rolls.
These days, we see only tompouces appearing in all sorts of guises, but we completely forget that there is an even more versatile product: the frikandel. Name it and there is a frikandel version of it. Frikandel sushi, frikandellington, doner sandwich with frikandel, frikandel toastie, loaded fries with frikandel… Frikandel salad is the latest addition to the list. And what an addition. In Goirle, people are lining up for it!
Frikandel salad: ready for carnival
The frikandel salad was created to be sold during the Elfde van de Elfde, the start of the carnival season. A celebration that, naturally, they don’t let pass them by in the Brabant village of Goirle. So what goes into this frikandel salad? Small pieces of deep-fried frikandel, lots of sauce (homemade mayo, Joppie sauce and sweet chili sauce), and a generous lump of fried onions. It’s mixed together and sold like that.
