Brad Pitt launches his own rosé champagne: FLEUR DE MIRAVAL (but the price is quite a shock)
Having your own rosé is already super cool, but Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have had one for a while. The ultimate? A rosé champagne. And yes, they can now tick that off their list too. Their FLEUR DE MIRAVAL rosé champagne will be launched on October 15, 2020.
And a bit of celebrity naturally doesn’t just make rosé anywhere, but in the rosé-wine mecca: Provence. There, the now-divorced couple has been making delicious rosé for years, called Miraval, together with the famous French wine family Perrin. FLEUR DE MIRAVAL is the new project of the Jolie-Pitt and Perrin families. And remarkably, FLEUR DE MIRAVAL is the only Champagne house in the world to focus exclusively on rosé champagne.
Letting it bleed nicely
FLEUR DE MIRAVAL’s rosé champagne consists of 75% Chardonnay grapes of different ages, blended with 25% young Pinot Noir grapes. The wine is made using the unique saignée method, which means ‘letting it bleed’. With this method, the winemaker allows the freshly pressed blue grapes to ferment briefly along with the juice. The grape skins then give the juice a light pink color. The juice that the winemaker drains off is used to make the rosé wine. (The rest of the must that is then pressed is often used by winemakers to make red wine).
After fermentation, the rosé champagne ages in the bottle for 3 years in the dark cellars of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in Champagne. To protect the champagne from UV radiation, every bottle is lacquered; this means the wine is only exposed to daylight when the bottle is opened. This exclusive production method aims to create, as Brad Pitt himself describes it: “a champagne that evokes feelings of quality, prestige, celebration and luxury”.

Want to get your hands on a bottle?
That will be difficult. We’re talking about a limited-edition rosé champagne here—only 20,000 bottles have been produced, and the entire world has to make do with those. Wine importer Wine & Spirits has been promised a number of bottles for the Dutch market. The price? Approximately €326. Ka-chingggg!
