De Librije ranks third among the 1,000 best restaurants in the world
Every year, La Liste compiles a list of the 1,000 best restaurants in the world, and every year this is — understandably — quite an event. The list is compiled based on online guides, as well as reviews from critics and online guest reviews. So you can imagine that restaurants are keen to be included; all the important aspects of the rating are taken into account.
La Liste developed an algorithm for this that consults 1,100 sources and produces a score ranging from 0, the lowest, to 100, the highest.
Great score for De Librije
And in third place in this prestigious ranking, we see a Dutch restaurant, namely De Librije. They share third place after achieving a score of 98.5, which is of course already reason to uncork the champagne, but it is also better than last year; back then, De Librije scored 98 points. A fantastic score, naturally, but this one must feel just a little better.
De Librije leaves many Dutch restaurants behind; in total, 21 Dutch names appear on this list (curious about the full list? check it out here). Inter Scaldes in Kruiningen managed to rack up 97.5 points (putting it in fifth place), while both Ciel Bleu in Amsterdam and Tribeca from Heeze just made it into the top ten with 95.5 (only restaurants that managed to score 95 points or more — around 300 in total — made it into the top ten).
De Librije: The Recipe
De Librije has been at the top of the culinary world for thirty years. In their recently published book, De Librije: The Recipe, you can read all about the ins and outs of building the De Librije empire over the past 30 years. Through photography and interviews, the book beautifully captures how culinary couple Jonnie and Thérèse Boer achieved and maintained their three-star status in the Netherlands.
Incidentally, La Liste also gives hotels a score (according to La Liste, these are the best hotels in the world), a great idea that Michelin is also going to adopt; they announced that they would award hotels stars.
