Experts agree: this is the best brie in the supermarket

Brie supermarkt

Fresh baguette with brie, delicious! Where do you get that brie? Maybe true brie lovers turn up their noses at supermarket brie, but according to these experts, that really isn’t necessary. They positively rave about the fresh brie from Jumbo, for example.

Three cheese experts put the knife to brie bought at the supermarket for AD. Whether the brie is fresh or not can be seen from the side. If it is covered with the same layer of mould as the top of your brie, the wedge was cut some time ago. ‘With fresh brie, the sides of the wedges are free of mould,’ the article says. Ha, good to know!

Runs off the board

The cheese experts’ favourite: the farmhouse brie from Albert Heijn. That cheese smells seriously strong and runs right off the cheese board. Warning: not a brie for beginners, as it is quite intense. The brie de Meaux Le Triconville (available at Albert Heijn and Plus) also scores points. Downside: it is still a little firm inside, which means the brie is being sold too young. ‘Only over time do the enzymes make the brie beautifully creamy.’

The brie from Jumbo is also a hit. One of the cheese experts breaks into poetry when he tastes this brie. ‘The earthy mushroom notes of the mould rind pair well with the fresh, fruity cheese inside,’ he says.
