Hooray! These Dutch chefs are in The Best Chef Award 2021 top 100
Last night, The Best Chef Awards announced the top 100 best chefs for the fifth time. The Best Chef is a prestigious title, especially because the list is largely determined by fellow chefs. There are ten Dutch chefs in the top 100: a reason to be proud! Dennis Huwaë and Joris Bijdendijk are the biggest climbers.
The Best Chef Awards took place in Amsterdam this year. For the fifth time, the culinary elite themselves named the 100 best chefs in the world. Fellow chefs assess one another based on their personality, talent, experience and growth. The chefs with the highest scores are rewarded with a place in the top 100.
After a virtual edition in 2020, and under the motto ‘Back to LIVE. Back to reality’, the most influential names from the international culinary world gathered in Amsterdam to honor the very best in the world of gastronomy. The 2021 list features chefs from 29 different countries. This year’s ceremony was a home game for Dennis Huwaë; less than a month ago, he moved his Michelin-starred restaurant (top tip: the chef’s menu at Daalder) from the Jordaan to Het Sieraad in Amsterdam-West.
Best Chef Award top 3
Rene Redzepi of restaurant NOMA, which received its third Michelin star this week, is no longer leading the rankings. Dabiz Munoz of restaurant Diverxo in Spain takes over the top spot from the Dane. Redzepi is now in fifth place. The award for the highest new entry in the top 100 goes to Portuguese chef Henrique sá Pessoa, who will open a location in Amsterdam in November; ARCA – we got to taste it in advance and were ecstatic.

Just like last year, Jonnie Boer is the highest-ranked Dutch chef in The Best Chef Award top 100. Four Dutch chefs are new to the top 100. The Dutch chefs in the top 100 (the position in the previous ranking is shown in parentheses, n = new) are, respectively:

The Best Chef Gourmet Award
Joris Bijdendijk (executive chef), Ivan Beusink (chef de cuisine) and Yascha Oosterberg (chef de cuisine) also won The Best Chef Gourmet Award with restaurant Rijks in Amsterdam, for the best restaurant in the city where the event took place – Amsterdam this year. Joris on his award: ‘The best feeling, I am honored. Amsterdam, we can be proud! Everyone come to my restaurant, hold on to the award, and let’s make it a celebration. We just all have to leave again at twelve o’clock.’
