The best Italian delis & delicatessens in Amsterdam

What would a Dutch city be without places dedicated to Italian delicatessen? Niente. Fortunately, in Amsterdam you don’t have to think about that, because there are many more than the ones I mention in this list. But that you’re in the right place at the delis and delicatessens below for an impressive aperitif spread (usually my goal when visiting), an evening of not cooking but eating fantastically, or an evening of cooking with ingredients as if you had picked them straight from Italy (which is also true, although you didn’t do it entirely yourself), is certain.

Casa del Gusto

This is the kind of place I go to without a plan and come home with a wallet that’s three times lighter. But then there are incredible cheeses on the table, fine wines and typical Italian things that the owners have sourced themselves from Italy. And a visit to the shop is also like a little holiday.

Terre Lente

Terre Lente means ‘slow land’, and that makes this deli in the Jordaan absolutely worth visiting. You’ll mainly find products from the slowest part of Italy: the south, where the Calabrian owner comes from. Another nice touch: you can take a coffee break in the corner by the window.

Basilico Fish & More

Also in the Jordaan and also from the south, but with products from Puglia. Basilico Fish&More is more of a delicatessen, where you can let them do the prep for you and take home fresh, ready-made pizza, pasta and other bites alongside the delicatessen.

La Bottega by Chiara’s Food

Shame on me, but this is an Italian deli that I’ve had at the top of my to-do list for years, yet still haven’t visited. Somehow, it seems like one of the most fun Italian spots. Whether I’m looking for something or not, all the Italian products I want always lead me online to La Bottega by Chiara’s Food. Wines, pistachio spread, spicy stuff, panettone, the most beautiful food boxes filled with everything you didn’t know you wanted…

Alberto Pozzetto

A wonderfully crammed little shop that is not only packed with delicious products, but also with people, including many Italians. You can do your daily Italian grocery shopping here, but also get excellent sandwiches and good coffee for a stroll around the neighborhood.

Salumeria Italiana

The display window at Salumeria Italiana alone will make you greedy, with an extensive collection of products always on show. This deli is the place for countless types of pasta, but you naturally go to a salumeria for one thing in particular: Italian cured meats.

Renzo’s Delicatessen

If you come here with a specific goal, everything in the refrigerated display under the counter will inevitably distract you. Besides Italian delicatessen, you come to Renzo’s for filled sandwiches (Broodje Dino!), until you suddenly notice trays full of dishes that you want to take home—all of which means you won’t have to cook for yourself for the rest of the week.

Toscanini Deli

Did you know that Toscanini, one of our favorite restaurants in Amsterdam, also has a deli? At the Deli, all the Italian-imported products you can think of are displayed on shelving, and you’ll also find fresh pasta and sauces from the kitchen that does them best.

Salvatorica

You’ll find practically nothing here but pasta, but I still want to mention it since I’m also celebrating delicatessens here. The entire shop is focused on one thing and looks like a kind of laboratory where pasta is made. You can buy it here super fresh and super good. That tells you where the focus lies. You can also eat your pasta on the spot.

Feduzzi

One of the first Italian delis, still proudly present in the Rivierenbuurt. They make the fresh pasta, sandwiches and tapenade themselves, and you can also stop here for coffee. Speaking of that fresh pasta: always take home lasagna and immediately stock up on ravioli from the freezer.

Peperoncino

FavorFlav’s Sharon’s favorite. This cute little shop houses the tastiest Italian delicatessen, from pistachio cookies and pasta to the owner’s great pride: ‘Nduja. It’s displayed in the showcase among the other Italian charcuterie. There are a few tables inside and outside, so do as Sharon did and order a delicious Italian drink, some prosciutto crudo, mortadella and freshly baked focaccia. Or one of these fantastic Italian pizzas, prepared by the owner at the back of the shop.
