They’re just real people, those celebrities. But whether they always think so themselves… These bizarre backstage food demands show that the biggest stars sometimes literally think they come from another planet.
Beyoncé
If your nickname is Queen B, then it’s almost inevitable that you have a few demands in life. And she does, including backstage during her concerts. When she was shining at the American Super Bowl in 2004, she wanted chicken backstage ‘HEAVILY SEASONED WITH CAYENNE PEPPER’ (in all caps, yes). Another demand: there couldn’t be any Coca-Cola anywhere near her. Which is somewhat logical, since she had a sponsorship deal with Pepsi (with which she later signed another deal worth 50 million dollars (!))
Justin Bieber
The Biebs broke through in 2009 at the age of 15 with his iconic hits One Time and Baby (not me still having these bangers on repeat all the time). The Canadian became mega-famous in no time and yeah… that can go to your head. And that can manifest itself in, for example, strange backstage demands. Justin apparently really wants Swedish fish when he’s getting ready behind the scenes. It’s definitely healthy, and tasty too. But honestly? I can think of 1000 other things I’d choose before Swedish fish—and certainly not Surströmming… Starting with a huge fries table, for example.
Kanye West
Ah, Kanye. I could fill an entire blog with his remarkable statements and actions, but I’m not really in the mood for that right now. Kanye also has some rather unusual demands when he has to perform somewhere. In 2016, the rapper asked for two slushie machines with alcohol backstage. One with Hennessy and Coca-Cola and one with Grey Goose vodka and lemonade. I’m not a fan of Kanye… but I am a fan of this idea. Hello, a slushie machine with your favorite alcohol?! I already know what I want for Christmas: a machine full of these sangria slushies.
Britney Spears
Britney hasn’t had an easy life, we all know that. So she hasn’t performed for quite some time now. In 2011, she was still taking the stage, and during that tour she had quite a few remarkable food-related demands. Her biggest demand? McDonald’s hamburgers, but without the bun. She must have thought that was overrated too. Whether the employees at the golden arches were particularly happy with her demand remains to be seen.
Taylor Swift
Taylor is more or less the biggest pop star of the moment. For her tour in America, so many fans wanted to buy a ticket that the ticketing site completely crashed. Now those are some serious goals! What does she want to eat and drink backstage when she’s on tour? Iced caramel lattes, mac & cheese, Red Bull and Ben & Jerry’s are among the items on the list. I can totally get behind that. Taylor, if you’re reading this: I’d love to come backstage and snack with you sometime.
