6 of the weirdest mayonnaise flavors in the world

I loooove mayonnaise. I never eat fries without it (preferably with some satay sauce too), and every burger needs it as well. No barbecue is complete without mayonnaise—in fact, can you even call it a barbecue if no thought has clearly been given to the sauces? But these days, you can’t get away with just ‘regular’ mayonnaise. No, truffle mayonnaise has won over plenty of hearts by now too.

The fact that it mainly smells like truffle and doesn’t actually taste like it, we’ll just take for granted. I do too, by the way—wake me up for truffle fries (with Parmesan cheese on top, yummm) and truffle mayonnaise. They’ve become classics in no time. In fact: truffle mayo fries are considered the fries of the future!
What is not okay is what some people do to our beloved mayonnaise. I was already amazed by the chip flavors, but these have also raised an eyebrow or two. Read on, and above all: shudder.
It’s not even allowed
Oh wait, one more thing first: to carry the honorable title of ‘mayonnaise,’ the yellow sauce has to meet strict requirements. Mayonnaise is a legally protected term, after all. The Commodities Act therefore states: ‘The designation mayonnaise may be used exclusively for a food product consisting of an oil-in-water emulsion containing at least 70% fat and at least 5% egg yolk.’ The manufacturers below cleverly get around this by calling their highly dubious dollops ‘mayo.’
The weirdest mayonnaise flavors in the world

1. Pigs in Blankets mayo
In other words… mayo… that tastes like cocktail sausages wrapped in puff pastry? What are you supposed to put it on—your sausage? I’m skipping it.
2. Bacon mayo, aka… Baconnaise
Why does mayonnaise need to taste like meat? Did I miss a memo about this?

3. Mayo with barbecue sauce, or mayo with mustard, or mayo with ketchup
No, I get that those combinations aren’t particularly weird. But how lazy are you if you find it too much effort to mix them yourself and buy these combos prepackaged instead? That’s next level. Anyway: FavorFlav’s Lauretta is a fan of mayochup—and she’s not the only one…

4. Easter egg mayo
Chocolate with mayo. Why? WHY?

5. Red Bull mayo
Whaaaaat?! And it’s not even actual Red Bull, but Monster. Heinz, what are you doing?

6. Avocado mayo
It may not sound that weird, but… ugh, that really doesn’t look right, does it—so dark green? And avocado has so little flavor, while mayonnaise has so much. This combo is unworthy of mayonnaise.
