It’s Belgian weeks at Lidl: these 5 Belgian products you’ll want to buy
Well now, that’s fun! Starting today, Belgian Week kicks off at Lidl. That means you can buy some really great Belgian products at delicious prices. Which ones will we definitely be putting in our cart?
Flemish cuisine really is a favorite of mine. Mainly because the entire repertoire seems to consist almost exclusively of comfort food. Thick-cut fries, spicy beef stew, shrimp croquettes, vol-au-vent (chicken ragout in puff pastry), endive with ham and cheese, warm waffles… Yes, our southern neighbors certainly know what tastes good. Luckily, I live close to the Belgian border, so I can easily enjoy real Flemish cuisine. And now it’s being made even easier for me, because all it takes is a trip to Lidl.
1. Pizza with fries
We’re kicking things off with something striking—and coincidentally, a product we wrote about recently: the pizza with fries. It’s actually an incredibly simple dish, since it’s nothing more than dough topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella and fries. It’s not new either: Domino’s once came out with a Pizza Frietza. Still, we want to have this in the freezer. For when we have a hangover. Starting today (29-1-2025), you can take one home for € 2.49.
2. Belgian-style croquettes
Croquettes in the Belgian style—what should you expect? I already mentioned shrimp croquettes, but in Belgium they know plenty of other delicious fillings to put in their croquettes. That’s why next week at Lidl you’ll find croquettes with chicken and mushrooms, croquettes with ham, and croquettes with ham and endive. The latter sounds intriguing to me, but we know that ham and endive make a great combination. So why not put them in a croquette? And hey… Comfort food, remember? You can take home a box of 4 croquettes for € 2.49.
3. Filled truffles
The Belgians certainly know how to make a delicious piece of chocolate. So naturally, you can buy something chocolate-related during Lidl’s Belgian Week. And not just anything: these creamy truffles with white and milk chocolate flakes look heavenly. When it’s “that time of the month,” I know for sure I won’t be able to keep my hands off them. You know what? I’ll just buy a huge supply tomorrow. At € 2.19 for a 200-gram box, I can hardly complain.
4. Belgian cheeses
It gets even better—especially if you’re convinced that cheese is the best food in the world. We certainly are, so we absolutely can’t leave Lidl’s Belgian cheeses behind. From a wonderfully creamy, mild, semi-hard Corsendonk mini cheese ball to Val-Dieu Bouguet des Moines: a soft abbey cheese with a white mold rind. I can definitely see myself sitting down to a Belgian cheese board next weekend. Prices range from € 2.19 for 100 grams of Oud Brugge cheese to € 9.99 for the Corsendonk cheese ball (850 grams).
5. Belgian beers
Since we’re talking about a Belgian cheese board, you’d better have a nice drink to go with it. Perhaps a refreshing Liefmans, or the heavier artillery: a Tripel Karmeliet or Gulden Draak Quadrupel? Lidl has them all. Once again, for next to nothing: six Tripel Karmeliets, for example, will cost you just € 6.75 starting tomorrow. This could easily turn into a very convivial party. With Clouseau, K3 and Jacques Brel playing through the speakers.
