New: fries with spiced cookie sauce. Who dares?

‘I’ll have fries with spiced cookie sauce, please.’ If you place this order at your local snack bar, people will definitely look at you as if you’ve fallen off the roof with your horse. Not if you usually get your fries at Mikies snack bar in Boxtel, Brabant. From 16 November, fries with spiced cookie sauce will be on the menu there.

Spiced cookies fall into the same category as tompouce and Dubai chocolate: people are experimenting with them extensively. Not only are there spiced cookies in every flavor you can imagine (from your favorite cocktail to your favorite dessert), the Sinterklaas snack also appears in all kinds of other products. Do you remember the spiced cookie spread from Albert Heijn? And Aldi’s spiced cookie ice cream? We already thought those were pretty inventive at the time. But fries with spiced cookie sauce are really something else.
Team Spiced Cookie vs. Team Get-Lost
The recipe at Mikies snack bar is simple: fries with mayonnaise mixed with spiced cookie seasoning, topped with spiced cookie crunch. You almost wonder why you didn’t think of it yourself sooner. Probably because many people initially raise their eyebrows at the idea. Salty fries with a sweet spiced cookie—would you really want that? Judging by the reactions, most respondents to the Brabants Dagblad interview don’t:
- ‘No nonsense on the fries 🌷’
- ‘What’s next? Dubai Chocolate fries or Tompouce fries…’
- ‘Some people really do come up with the craziest stuff…’
- ‘Get lost 😂😂😂’
Still, some people do join Team Spiced Cookie:
- ‘It immediately makes me think of white bread with butter and speculaas cookies. So this definitely can’t be bad.😋😋’
- ‘That has existed for a very long time—I used to do that myself.’
- ‘In the name of Saint Nicholas, what is this absolutely delicious idea?’
Spiced cookie fries in August
Will fries with spiced cookie sauce become a permanent fixture? According to Mikies man Joey, no. You can order the fries for three weeks from 16 November. After that, they will be removed from the menu—unless there is a rush for them. Who knows, you might even be able to try spiced cookie fries next August. Besides, we’re already used to spiced cookies appearing in stores around that time. A serving of spiced cookie fries should fit right in just as easily.
