After years as number 1 for fruit and vegetables, Lidl is now also the best for bread. This is according to the 2024 GfK Fresh Report research. Lidl is often voted the ‘best supermarket for fruit and vegetables‘ by the institute Growth from Knowledge (better known as GfK). This year marks the 11th time! Lidl scores particularly well on quality and price, but according to the research, the wide selection and presentation also stand out.

Lidl: fresh-food champion of the Netherlands

And now they can call themselves the ‘Fresh-Food Champion of the Netherlands’. To celebrate this happy occasion, all stores have been equipped with a special fruit stand offering free apples for children. You probably won’t be kicked out of the store if you grab one for yourself either. Because a celebration is a celebration, right?

This free little apple will remain available even after the celebrations and is intended to encourage children to choose healthy food. For this reason, Lidl also has healthier snacks rather than candy at the supermarket checkout—the place for impulse purchases.

Best supermarket for fresh bread

After years as number 1 for fruit and vegetables, Lidl is now also the best for fresh bread, according to the 2024 GfK Fresh Report research. Sure, fresh bread from the bakery remains tastier, but Lidl’s walnut bread—and the smaller walnut rolls—are genuinely delicious. Especially when they come warm from the oven with a thick layer of butter..
