Trend: mustard on your watermelon – and does it taste good?

Hype
The mustard-watermelon hype has spread around the world since singer Lizzo tried it. In one of her episodes of ‘Is it bussing or is it disgusting?’ Lizzo drizzled a mountain of mustard over a piece of watermelon and tasted whether the combination was really as delicious as so many people claim. As you can see in the video, Lizzo isn’t exactly impressed, something I can relate to.
What it tastes like
So what does mustard on watermelon taste like? Naturally, I tried the combination (just like blue cheese with Nutella). The verdict? Nothing more or less than literally just the taste of mustard and watermelon. It’s not horribly gross, but delicious is another matter. French Dijon mustard on a piece of watermelon adds little in terms of flavor and doesn’t take the fruit to a higher level – if that’s what you might hope or expect.
What does take your watermelon to a higher level? Pine nuts and mozzarella balls. Or how about mint and feta? Those are combinations that really make us happy!
