We hadn’t seen these idiotic food combinations yet
On Facebook, there are seemingly normal people. But when nobody’s watching, they all eat the most bizarre combinations. That’s at least the conclusion you reach when you read the responses to the article ‘8 idiotic combinations – but delicious!’ Thought it couldn’t get any crazier: think again.
Cream cheese with…
Chantal doesn’t just eat creatively herself (peanut butter with sprinkles); she taught her daughter to do it too. ‘She really likes a sandwich with cream cheese and grill sausage.’ Apparently more people like that, such as Pascha (also a fan of ontbijtkoek with cheese) and Tanja, who also recommends grill sausage with cheese, but no, Chantal’s daughter isn’t tempted by that.
Croquette abuse
Mietsy doesn’t dip her fries in mayo or ketchup, but in mustard. Martine stuffs her fries into a hollowed-out croquette, and Peter adds a little applesauce. Tip for the culinary snacker: you can pull off the same trick with a smulrol, according to Laska. Debbie is never quick to leave the snack bar: she hollows out her croquette, eats the fries with the ragout from that croquette, and then nibbles on the empty croquette. That croquette inspires Rick to come up with a new combination: sprinkles inside. Sure, why not.
Peanut butter plus
Apparently, many people enjoy peanut butter on bread, but feel that something is still missing. Peanut butter with sprinkles is mentioned often, and some creative types mean fruit sprinkles too. Whatever you’re in the mood for. But what about peanut butter with filet américain? Natascha’s idea. Karin combines peanut butter with salami, Cindy recommends peanut butter with cucumber, and Melissa spreads a little sambal on top as well.
How do you know it doesn’t taste good?
Right, that ontbijtkoek. Pascha eats it with cheese, Judith spreads veal liver sausage on it too, and Claudia goes all out with chocolate spread while Roy spreads Paturain on his ontbijtkoek. Judith: ‘When I tell people about it, they’re disgusted, but how do you know if you’ve never tried it?’ A good point in principle, but still: spreadable sausage or Paturain on ontbijtkoek? I’ll pass for now.
Sour macaroni
Of course, you eat macaroni with tomato sauce, or with cheese from the oven. But no, Jannet’s boyfriend stirs mayonnaise through it. What?!? No, he’s certainly not the only one; Tina’s boyfriend also reaches for the mayo when macaroni is on the menu. Gerline joins in, as does Esther, and she especially needs lemon mayonnaise, because for her it’s all about ‘the sourness.’ Oof. In the category of what can you do with mayo, Dore also mentions bami with mayonnaise, apparently a favorite combination of Merel and Sjaan.
Teatime
Is that strange? Tea with milk? Marieke says people look at her strangely because of it. But the other tea-with-milk fans soon make themselves known, such as Conny and Thirza. And Arjan delicately points out to the ladies that a few million people live across the Channel who drink tea with milk. Pinky up, Arjan!
Pancake fantasy
Apart from all the creative culinary antics with ontbijtkoek, peanut butter and croquettes, there’s plenty more to be amazed by. Such as Nellie, who pours syrup over an innocent bacon pancake, puts banana on top and then spoons satay sauce over it. Marcel ate fries with Nutella in Germany, Hanneke eats boerenkoolstamppot with curry, Edith’s husband eats green beans with sugar, and Nina apparently served cream puffs with herring. Although we hope that last one was a joke.
