Aldi is looking for at-home wine tasters: free wine!
Everyone has their hobby during coronavirus; all over the country, people are baking bread, knitting, strumming guitars… And what do I do? Order lots of wine. No wonder my British husband pointed out a particularly fun call for entries to me: Aldi is looking for wine-tasting guinea pigs for its newest wine club, which made me jump up enthusiastically from the sofa. There is just one catch…
And wow, how lucky they are over there! We previously reported that in England you can have KEGS of Pornstar Martini delivered to your doorstep, and now there is even more good news for British at-home drinkers: Aldi is looking for wine-tasting guinea pigs for its newest wine club over there…
A little lose, a whole lot of win
That is not a wine club (now, during coronavirus) where you get together for a cosy tasting and discuss everything at length with your colleagues, and although that somewhat dampens the fun, it is more than made up for by free wine!
No diploma required
They are not looking for professional masters of wine with titles and certificates, but simply John and Everyman who fancy having a nice little taste and tweeting something sensible about it. You can bet your bottom dollar that this will produce funny posts after a few bottles, because John and Everyman certainly won’t spit those tasting sips back out as they do at most official tastings.
In da club
It obviously helps if you are interested in wine and have always wanted to learn a little more about it, and you have to do your best to tweet honest reviews based on the ‘tasting notes’ they send you, using the hashtag #AldiWineClub. They are looking for thirty people, who will have the newest bottles from the German supermarket chain delivered to their homes.

To apply, you first need to follow Aldi’s Twitter and Instagram accounts. Then email wineclub@aldi.co.uk with your name, the usernames of your Twitter and Instagram accounts, proof that you are of legal age and a 150-word motivation. Applications are open until 17 May 2021, so what are you waiting for? Get up to speed on Spanish Tempranillo, fresh Sauvignon Blanc, ‘slutty’ Chardonnay and diva Pinot Noir. Good luck and santé!
And if you are wondering why this has not taken off here yet, I would say: rise up and demand this from Aldi Netherlands too! You deserve a club as well!
